This week is National Gardening  Week in the UK and there are  events taking place all over the country.

 TOM’s INSPIRATION

My memories  go back some fifty years ago when Tom Wood, a Yorkshire man by birth (and so proud of it), left the swinging London of the mid-sixties to settle with Beryl in the tiny village of Stibb in north Cornwall.

In addition to restoring a former falconry, Tom faced a expanse of land demanding to be filled with plants.

Tom set about filling it with flowers, fruits, vegetables and herbs and Beryl took on the challenge of an abundance of produce.  The writing of LPI

Within about a few years  of their arrival he had grown some of the produce and Beryl had researched, cooked, preserved, written and published Let’s Preserve It by 1970.

FIND HELP WITH STARTING A KITCHEN GARDEN

There are helpful so many books and articles from professional gardeners to start you off – see links below and to which I would like to add my most important tip is to grow what you will enjoy  and also read the instructions on the packet!

Herbs are a great start and I agree with Mark Diacono, author of The New Kitchen Garden, who reminds us that ‘collection of herbs by the back door can transform every meal’.
